Art Nouveau 14kt Diamond, Demantoid Garnet + Natural Pearl Pendant Necklace 16"
A gorgeous and artistic necklace from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) era! Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, this unusual piece forms the shape of a fantastic mythological griffin pendant hanging from a simple gold chain. The raised repousse design is intricately detailed, including a curved body and coiled tail, feathered wings, pointed claws, and an open mouth. A demantoid garnet represents the creature's bright green eye, while a sparkling old Mine Cut diamond is "grasped" within its mouth. Finishing the design is a delicate natural pearl that rests within the claw, while a beautiful Mississippi "dog tooth" pearl swings with lovely movement from the base of the tail. Both pearls display a natural creamy white color and high surface luster, providing lovely feminine accents to the design. Attached to the top of the pendant is a fluted bail that hangs from a gold chain, which fastens in the back with a simple spring ring clasp. This unique and beautifully crafted necklace would make a special addition to any collection! !
Measurements: The necklace measures 16" in total length. The pendant hangs approximately 2" long (including the bail at the top), 7/8" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold pendant and chain and the diamond, demantoid garnet, and both pearls are intact and securely set. The bail is secure and in good working condition.
