Art Nouveau Continental Silver Mucha Style Movable Book Pendant Necklace 18"
A wonderful pendant necklace from the Art Nouveau (1900s) era! This lovely piece is crafted in .900 purity silver and comprised of a vibrant enameled pendant which hangs from a simple silver chain. The movable book pendant displays a beautiful hand painted Mucha-style woman on the front of its rectangular face. The blushing, blue-eyed woman has long, flowing black hair and a yellow avian hairpiece, her soft features standing out against the chartreuse green background. A carved wavy texture below the green enameling is visible from the front and golden yellow branching completes the striking image. The remaining surface of the book cover displays an engraved zigzag pattern and the piece opens with a small latch to reveal inner pages, one of which is hinged and moves freely. The back cover is smoothly polished and the pendant hangs from a complementary chain by a secure bail at its top left corner. The bail is marked with the French silver import mark of a rectangular-framed weevil, along with "900" and what appears to be a French bigorne countermark. This lovely piece would be a wonderful addition to any Art Nouveau collection!
