Art Nouveau Silver Gilt Enamel Pansy Flower Slide Magnification Locket
A lovely and very unusual Austro-Hungary slide locket pendant from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) period! This fantastic piece is crafted in gilded silver and is rectangular in shape. Attached by a small hinge at the top is a vibrant purple pansy flower which is covered in a detailed painted floral design with an enameled surface. The pansy has rich hues of purple, black and creamy yellow and a wonderful life-like appearance and when slid to the side, reveals a round window which has a magnified glass face. The window allows you to see through to the inside of the locket where a special photograph can be placed in a hinged, pop-up encasement. The photo encasement can be accessed by opening the locket at the top of the piece and frame pops up automatically once opened. The locket pendant hangs from a simple gilded bail and the underside has a smoothly polished surface. It's a wonderfully artistic and fine piece that would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket pendant hangs approximately 1 1/8" long, measures a little less than 5/8" wide and 1/4" thick. The interior photograph encasement measures 1/2" tall by a little less than 1/2" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the slide locket pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gilded silver setting or enameling and the pansy face slides easily. Additionally, the locket opens easily and stays securely closed and the hinged pop-up photo encasement is in good working condition.
