BAILEY BANKS & BIDDLE Art Deco 14kt Madeira Citrine Intaglio Signet Ring
The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving into the surface of a stone to produce an image in relief, with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.
A stunning intaglio ring from the late Art Deco (ca1930) era by renowned maker Bailey, Banks & Biddle! Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, this fabulous piece features a gorgeous madeira citrine at the center. The bezel set stone exhibits a rich, deep orange color and is lightly faceted around the edge, delivering a soft sparkle as it catches the light. A hand-carved intaglio image of three owl motifs is visible on the surface of the stone, representing a family coat of arms. The mounting is smoothly polished and lightly beveled, with wide shoulders that extend to a tapered band in the back. Stamped along the shank is the authentic Bailey, Banks & Biddle signature hallmark "BBB" beside a "14K" gold purity mark. A hand-engraved inscription is also visible inside, which reads "M.M.C. 1930." This stylish unisex ring by a celebrated designer would look equally nice worn by a man or woman!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 6, but could easily be resized. The signet centerpiece measures 1/2" in size. The tapered band measures 3mm wide at the back. The total pennyweight of the piece is 4.1 dwt (6.3 grams).
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold mounting. The citrine stone is intact, securely set, and free of any noticeable chips or scratches.
