Edwardian 18kt/Platinum 3ctw Sapphire + Diamond Double Snake Head Chain Necklace
An absolutely spectacular snake necklace from the Edwardian (1910s) era! This exquisite piece is crafted in 18kt yellow gold and platinum and features a double-headed snake motif at the center of a heavy gold chain. The two striking snakes face one another, sharing a movable, diamond-encrusted ring which is grasped within their jaws. Each serpent displays an incredible pyramidal cabochon sapphire set in its head, both untreated stones exhibiting exceptional shades of deep blue and collectively weighing approximately 3.00ctw. Old Mine Cut diamonds adorn the tips of their noses, necks, and stud their eyes for a sophisticated intensity, collectively weighing approximately 1.50ctw overall diamond weight. Elegant scale engraving complements the gold snakeheads as their bodies curl into a curb link chain, seamlessly transitioning from the central design into the necklace chain. The matching chain completes the jaw-dropping design, fastening at a discrete push clasp in the back, further secured by a safety. Accompanying the piece is a GIA Gemological Sapphire Origin Report issued by GIA (Gemological Institute of America) in December of 2020 which confirms the two stones' identification as natural, non-heated Cambodian sapphires. The sapphires are reviewed in an additional Prestige Gemstone Report issued by AGL (American Gemological Laboratories) in September of 2020. This report confirms the sapphires to be natural, non-heated stones of Cambodian, more specifically Pailin, origin. This diamond and sapphire snake necklace would be an undeniably magnificent addition to any collection.
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 14" in total length. Each snake measures about 3/8" wide, 1 3/16" long, and 7/16" at its deepest point including the raised sapphire. The circle measures nearly 5/8" in diameter.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and platinum setting. The sapphires and diamonds are all intact and securely set. The clasp and safety chain are both secure and in excellent working condition.
