Edwardian Platinum Teardrop Opal + Diamond Pendant Necklace 10ctw
An incredible and unusual opal pendant necklace from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This stunning platinum piece is comprised of a single teardrop shaped opal dangling beautifully from an ornate diamond link at the center of a delicate chain. The opal weighs approximately 10ctw and is absolutely mesmerizing, displaying a pale translucence that reveals vibrant flashes of green, blue, yellow, pink and orange. The stone is held in a gorgeous cap, lined with graduating old Rose Cut diamonds and dangles freely from an open, diamond encrusted link. The lovely swirled floral motif is complete with feminine flower petals, leaves, and delicate cutouts throughout and a combination of old Rose and Mine Cut diamonds line the surface. Fine milgrain accents embellish the cap and link, and additional cutouts line the edge, finishing the stunning design. Attached at either side of the pendant is a simple platinum chain, which fastens in the back with a barrel clasp. It's a spectacular piece that would look stunning worn on special occasions!
Measurements: The necklace measures 17" long. The pendant hangs approximately 2 7/8" long, measures 1 1/8" wide, and the opal measures about 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the platinum chain and setting or to the opal, and all of the diamonds are intact and securely set. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
