Edwardian Sterling Silver and Enamel Rose Basket Locket

Guilloché (usually "Guilloche" in English) is an engraving technique in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched in an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloché surface is then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design shows through the colorful enamel.

A lovely Guilloché enamel locket from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This surface of this wonderful sterling silver piece decorated with a feminine floral motif in pastel enamel. At the center rests a vibrant etched gold basket, which is wreathed in intricately painted roses and topped with a beautiful violet bow. Beneath the centerpiece is an exquisite Guilloché design, comprised of very fine etched lines and waves, that shows through to the transparent pale blue enamel surface. The locket opens to reveal a round space inside to store a special photograph behind the removable frame. At the top of the locket is a simple sterling bail, stamped with a 985 purity mark, perfect for hanging the piece from the includede silver chain. The back of the sterling locket is left simple and smooth. A lovely keepsake piece, it would make a wonderful addition to any antique collection!

Measurements: The locket hangs 1 1/4" long (including the bail), has a 1" diameter, and is 1/4" thick. The included chain measures 18" long.

Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting. The enameled Guilloche surface is excellent condition, and is free of chips or scratches. The locket opens easily and fastens securely shut, and the bail at the top is securely soldered. The removable photo frame inside is intact. There is a natural patina on the surface of the setting, which is normal for antique jewelry.
