Georgian Dramatic 18kt Day & Night Garnet Earrings
Absolutely incredible cabochon garnet earrings from the Georgian (ca1830) period. These fantastic earrings are made of 18kt gold and are particularly large in size. With a magnificent and royal-looking appearance, each earring has a smooth gold frame and scrolled textured accents. The beautiful earrings can be transformed from simple "day" earrings to a more dramatic and long "night" earring. They begin with a single cabochon garnet that is surrounded by a pinched square frame. These 'day' toppers rest at the base of European back earring wires, which fasten in the front. A long, but very light "night" link hangs from the "day" part which has a royal shield-like shape and a raised gold frame. The background of the earrings sits lower than the frame and garnet, giving the rich red stones a striking appearance. Scrolled accents rest at the top and bottom of each of the larger bottom links. The "night" section of the earring can be easily removed from the wires as desired for 2 completely different looks. The luscious red stones have wonderful and rich color which compliment the yellow gold beautifully. On the back of each earring is the hand engraved initital of what appears to be "IPA". They are simply marvelous earrings and would be perfect for a special occasion and are a must-have for a collector!
Measurements: Each 'night' earring hangs a little less than 3" long at the longest point, is 1" at the widest point and has a depth of a little more than 3/8". When worn as 'day' earrings, each hangs approximately 5/8" long, is 1/2" at the widest point and has a depth of 1/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the garnet stones. A natural patina appears on the surface of the gold which adds to the rich look of the earrings. The European wires are secure and in good working condition.
