Grogan Co. by Henry Blank & Co. Platinum Diamond, Sapphire + Pearl Quartz Watch
This stunning gemstone watch from the Art Deco (ca1920) era is an exceptional piece manufactured by Henry Blank & Co. in Newark, NJ for sale at Grogan Co., the leading retail jeweler in Pittsburgh, PA from 1890-1930! Crafted in platinum, this gorgeous ladies watch features a stunning rectanglar shaped face with a sparkling diamond and sapphire encrusted border. The French Cut sapphires create a fabulous Art Deco pattern and look regal next to the sparkling Single Cut diamonds, all resting in a milgrained setting. The quartz covered watch face displays a silver colored background with blue hands, black numbers, along with the "Grogran Co" signature at the center. The edges and back of the face have been enhanced with a beautiful engraved design, adding lovely feminine details, while the dial on the side is embellished with a delicate onyx cabochon.
The band is comprised of five rows of delicate seed pearl beads, which connect together to form a straight but flexible design, wrapping around the wrist and fastening in the back with a secure push clasp. When the watch face is opened, various hallmarks can be found, including a "PLATINUM" purity mark, Henry Blank & Co.'s signature hallmark of a C with an arrow through it, along with a possible serial number "40399." A Swiss made battery and mechanics are now attached to the back of the silver background, along with the quartz cover, converting the movement of the watch from its original self-winding mechanism to a battery powered timepiece. The lustrous pearls paired with the stunning diamonds and sapphires create an exceptional piece made by an accomplished maker and retailer. The watch looks spectacular when worn and would make a truly outstanding addition to any collection!
Measurements: The band measures approximately 6 1/2" long, 1/2" wide, and 1/8" thick and would fit a small to average sized wrist. Unfortunately, we would not recommend resizing it. The watch face measures about 1" long and 1/2" wide, and is about 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the watch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the platinum setting or quartz watch face. The diamonds, sapphires, and pearls are all intact and securely set. The push clasp is secure and in good working condition. The watch movement is in fine working order and keeping good time.
