Late Victorian 18kt Sardonyx Family Crest Intaglio Ring

SKU: 32938

$1,795

The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.

A stunning intaglio ring from the Late Victorian (ca1900) era! This signet ring has an oval shaped sardonyx stone with an image carved into the center. Sardonyx is a banded agate form of chalcedony quartz. The carved image appears to be a family crest of coat of arms, which is bezel set in a 18kt yellow gold mounting. The mounting and the band of the ring is a vibrant simple, smooth gold. The sardonyx is a very dark brown color and shades of burnt orange and red can be seen when held in the light. The underside of the ring is stamped ".750". This fabulous ring would make a beautiful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The intaglio measures 1/2" wide and 3/4" tall. The ring has a finger size of a generous size 7.5 but could easily be resized.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold mounting and only minor surface wear to the sardonyx intaglio.
