Los Castillo was a Mexican jewelry company formed by 4 brothers: Don Antonio, Jorge, Miguel, and Justo Castillo, in the late 1930's. All were trained in different areas of the silver business and Don Antonio Castillo was an apprentice for William Spratling's Las Delicias workshop in the early 1930's. Los Castillo is known for beautiful craftsmanship and their revival of ancient techniques.
This fabulous Vintage earrings and necklace set from the 1950s era is a wonderful example of Los Castillo jewelry! The matching set is crafted in sterling silver and comprised of gorgeous ornate wirework links that come together to form a stylish and eye-catching design. Each stunning link features a curved wirework shape that surrounds a relatively large half bead nestled at the center. The necklace is comprised of a row of twelve of these links, which forms a straight but flexible design that rests beautifully along the neckline. The necklace fastens with a simple double hook and loop, and stamped along the back of the central link is "LOS CASTILLO TAXCO," "STERLING," "MADE IN MEXICO," and "222." A dedicated left and right earring features a single ornate link that hangs vertically, and resting at the back is a screwback, perfect for pierced or non-pierced ears that can easily be converted to a post and earring back, if desired. Stamped on the back of each earring are similar markings found on the necklace. The natural darkened patina found within the wirework grooves looks beautiful next to the smoothly polished finish on the central bead. A wonderful example of Mexican sterling silver jewelry, this set would look wonderful worn together or separately, and make a fabulous addition to any collection!
