Rare Victorian 18kt/Sterling Rose Cut Diamond, Natural Pearl + Ruby Bat Pin
An rare and exquisite gemstone bat pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 18kt yellow gold topped with sterling silver, this mixed metals piece depicts an open winged bat, which comes to life in realistic 3-dimensional detail. Its outstretched wings are encrusted with sparkling old Rose Cut diamonds, in between veins of yellow gold. The creature's body is is portrayed by a relatively large natural pearl, exhibiting a gorgeous shimmery color, creamy tone and high luster surface. Additional Rose Cut diamonds adorn its face, where two vibrant red rubies dot each eye, adding a wonderful pop of color to the pin. Finishing the design are fantastic details including softly curved wings, and delicate legs and claws that peak out above and below the body. Resting on the back is the original bar pin, "c-catch" clasp and safety latch and a perfect spot for adding a bail if desired, allowing the pin to also be worn as a pendant. This incredible and rare Victorian piece would make a unique and stunning addition to any antique collection!
Measurements: The bat measures approximately 1 1/8" wide, 3/4" tall, and is about 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver and gold setting. All of the diamonds, rubies, and the pearl are secure and intact. The pin, clasp, and safety latch are secure and in good working order.
