Retro Rare Brass Bakelite Pencil, Jacks, + Marbles Charm Necklace 16.5"
Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bold, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.
An absolutely stunning and rare Bakelite charm necklace from the Retro (ca1940s) era! This visually striking piece is comprised of an ensemble of colorful charms depicting favorite childhood pastimes that hang at the center of its original brass link chain. The 3-dimensional charms rest in an alternating pattern and include brass jacks, carved Bakelite colored pencils, and smoothly polished marbles. All of the fantastic charms are realistically sized, and the pencils and marbles provide incredible pops of color, including navy blue, lime green, mustard yellow, vibrant red, deep green, and marbled brown. The pencil tips appear to be lightly "sharpened" and hang slightly longer than the rest of the charms, creating a wonderful visual effect when worn. The chain consists of round, alternating loops that connect together, fastening in the back with a spring ring clasp. This incredible necklace rests beautifully along the neckline and will delight everyone when worn, making it a fantastic addition to any Bakelite collection!
