RIKER BROS. Art Nouveau 14kt Multi-Gemstone Repousse Dragon Bracelet
Not many people are aware that Newark, New Jersey was a major hub for the manufacture of jewelry from the late 1800's until the 1950's. One of the leading companies, the Riker Brothers, has an early history that dates back to 1846. Their pieces are quite sought after and still remain highly collectible today!
This stunning bracelet from the Art Nouveau (ca1900) era is a wonderful example of the Riker Brothers' talent! Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, this slip-on style bangle features a detailed repousse design that exemplifies the signature Riker style. A row of exotic looking dragons carries around the outside surface, alternating with five luscious gemstone cabochons, including a carnelian, moonstone, lapis lazuli, amethyst, and a chrysoprase. The bezel set stones exhibit deep orange, royal blue, regal purple, rich green, and pale blue hues with the moonstone displaying a strong iridescent flash when caught in the light. Each dragon is intricately detailed, including a curled tail, scaled wings, and an open fanged mouth revealing a swirled tongue. The combination of the raised repousse motif next to the colorful gemstones provides a striking and unique appeal. Stamped inside the bangle is a "14K" gold purity mark below the signature Riker Brothers hallmark. This piece by a legendary maker would look wonderful worn alone or stacked with other complimentary bracelets, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The inside opening of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) measures 2 3/8" in diameter, and the bangle would fit nicely on an average sized wrist. The surface of the bracelet measures approximately 3/8 wide, and is slightly less than 1/4" thick.
