TIFFANY & CO. Art Deco 18kt Essex Crystal Horse Head Stick Pin

SKU: 44642

Reverse carved crystal was a technique created by cutting rock quartz crystal into a convex form and then polishing it into a cabochon shape.  An image is carved into the flat side of the crystal and then hand painted.  From the front, the picture appears to be almost three-dimensional. Animals were the most commonly used motif.

A fantastic Tiffany & Co. stick pin from the Edwardian (ca1910s) era! Crafted in 18kt yellow gold, the pin features a hand-painted chestnut horse within a reverse carved crystal on a mother of pearl background. The detailed horse has a lovely white blaze and a tanned bridle with a rose and cream-colored headpiece. The backside of the crystal is marked "TIFFANY & CO" and "18K" and is secured by a gold stick pin. This stunning pin would look beautiful worn on a blouse or blazer, either alone or paired with other pins!

Measurements: The stickpin measures a little more than 2 1/2" in total length; the rock quartz crystal top measures slightly more than 3/4" in diameter and is 5/16" deep, excluding the stick pin.

Condition: The stick pin is in overall excellent condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The crystal is intact and securely set. The pin is secure and in good working condition.
