SKU: 45886

$1,095

A signet ring can be represented by a smooth or engraved seal, or with an intaglio, which is created by carving into the surface of a stone. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A beautiful and unusual intaglio ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of buttery 14k yellow gold, this lovely piece holds a dark red, almost root beer colored agate intaglio at the center. The artistic carved image appears to represent Eros, the messenger god with a bow, arrow, and wings on his back. The warm agate is surrounded by a simple gold bezel, which is open in the back, and the seal is held in place with 8 prongs. Completing the design is a triple split band, marked with a fainte hallmark at the base of the shank. This unique intaglio ring would make a lovely everyday piece and is perfect for any Victorian collection!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 6 3/4, but could be resized up or down if necessary. The intaglio centerpiece measures 1/2" tall, 3/8" wide, and 1/4" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the green agate intaglio, which is intact and free of chips or scratches.
