The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce and image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax, often used in signet rings.
An absolutely fantastic intaglio signet ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of 14kt yellow gold, the ring has an attractive oval shaped carnelian intaglio held in the center, carved with an image of a family crest. Surrounding the carnelian stone is a gold beveled frame and the shoulders of the band are formed by 5 graduating gold strands. The inside of the band is stamped "585". It's a very handsome piece that would make a fabulous addition to any collection.
Measurements: The ring has a large finger size of 12.25, but could be easily resized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or to the carnelian intaglio which is intact.
