Victorian 14kt Diamond Starburst Double Sided Locket with Engraved Initials
A lovely double-sided locket from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! This wonderful piece is crafted in 14kt rosy yellow gold and forms the shape of a round disc. The smooth surface displays a polished finish, and one side is adorned with a sparkling 0.20ct old Mine Cut diamond that is prong set within a fabulous etched starburst design. The other side adorns a set of relatively large initials engraved in an elegant script. The initials read "JJG" and each letter adorns a curled end, and lovely flourishes are found throughout, adding a wonderful feminine touch. The locket is hinged on the side and opens to reveal two open spaces to hold special photographs or mementos if desired. The right interior is stamped with "SPRFUE&CO 14K" and the locket hangs from a simple gold bail dangling from a matching 14kt yellow old chain marked "14K" on the spring ring. It's a simple yet elegant piece that would make a wonderful keepsake addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 1 1/4" long (including the bail at the top), and measures about 1" in diameter and 1/8" thick. The chain measures 16" long.
Condition: The locket is in an overall very good antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the gold setting except for a few very mild indents on the surface of the front and back of the locket. Due to the high polish of the locket, they are not noticeable when worn and do not take away from the overall beauty of the piece. The diamond is intact and securely set. The hinged locket and bail are in good working condition. The chain and its attached spring-ring are in excellent condition.
