Victorian 14kt Gold Diamond + Emerald Raised Lion's Head Locket
A magnificent lion's head locket from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! This stunning piece is crafted in 14kt yellow gold and portrays the fierce head of a lion on a simple round locket. The raised lion is wonderfully detailed with faceted emeralds dotting each eye, textured fur, a protruding snout and an open mouth in mid-roar. Clenched in between his ferocious pointed teeth is a single sparkling diamond in a 4-prong setting, perfectly completing the bold design. The front and back of the locket have matching designs, each adorned with a smoothly polished surface and a beveled edge and the inside reveals two spaces to hold a special photo, one with a celluloid face, the other without. This fabulous piece is ready to be paired with a favorite chain and would make a lovely addition to any fine Victorian collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs a little more than 1 1/4" long (including the bail and jump ring), measures about 1" in diameter, and is 1/4" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold locket or lion motif and the diamond and emeralds are intact and securely set. The locket closes securely and is in good working order.
