Victorian 14kt Large Hand Carved Onyx Hoop Earrings
A fabulous pair of carved onyx earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14kt rosy yellow gold, each earring features a stunning front facing carved onyx hoop which dangles a large onyx bead at the center. The polished onyx reflects the light beautifully with every movement, and the bead provides wonderful movement to the design. A gold diamond-shaped accent rests at the base of the hoop, its etched surface adding a wonderful eye-catching element to the design. The surmount is comprised of a bell-shaped carved onyx link which adorns a delicate cut-out center and is capped with a smoothly polished gold top. A yellow gold bead topper finishes the design and attached at the back is a simple post and earring back stamped with a "585" gold purity mark. The rich black onyx paired with the vibrant gold accents creates a dramatic, eye-catching appeal, and despite their substantial size, the earrings are wonderfully lightweight and comfortable to wear. The earrings hang with lovely movement and frame the face beautifully, creating a perfect look day or night!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 2 1/4" long, and measures about 1 1/4" wide, and is 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The carved onyx is free of any serious chips or scratches, except for a few tiny chips near the top of each bell-shaped surmount, and a very minor internal fracture near the gold accent on one hoop. However, due to the size and color, they are not noticeable when worn. The post and earring backs are secure and in good working order.
