Victorian 14kt Watch Chain + Garnet Greyhound Dog Head Fob 14"
A unique and charming fob watch chain from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, this gorgeous pieces features a wonderful 3-dimensional fob that hangs from the end of an ornate chain. The highly detailed figural fob depicts the head of a lovely greyhound dog, with a fine textured surface to depict fur, a long snout, folded ears, and a slightly parted mouth. A deep red garnet cabochon dots each eye, and a wide, beautifully carved collar wraps around the dog's neck. The chain is comprised of smoothly polished open wirework links which graduate in width, each one decorated with a delicate bead on either side. The necklace fastens at the front with the help of a large ornate hook, which is attached to a ring that is riveted into the back of the fob. The design and length of the piece lends it to be a pocket watch chain, however, it could be worn as a choker-style necklace or paired with an additional chain to extend its length if desired. Measurements: The chain measures approximately 14" long (including the hook) and is a little less than 1/4" at the thickest point. The greyhound fob measures about 1 1/8" long, 3/8" wide, and 1/2" thick. The overall pennyweight of the piece is 17.0dwt (26.6 grams).
Condition: The overall condition of the chain and fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting. The garnets are intact and securely set. The hook and bail are secure and in good working order.
