A fabulous and unique pair of acorn earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, these decorative earrings have a beautiful 3-dimensional appeal and resemble an acorn-like design. An elongated oval-shaped link representing the base of the acorn dangles freely below a dome-shaped "cap." The smoothly polished base reflects the light beautifully with every turn, and is decorated with 4 carved lines leading downward toward a beaded tip. It swings with lovely movement from the acorn cap that is graced with a pattern of delicate Etruscan wirework and beadwork across the entire surface. Additional Etruscan wirework adorns the delicate bead topper, which is attached to simple gold wires at the top. Despite their size, the earrings are hollow, making them lightweight and comfortable when worn. They frame the face beautifully and are a wonderful example of fine Victorian acorn jewelry. Measurements: The earrings hang approximately 2" long (including the wire at the top), and measure about 1/2" wide and thick. The overall pennyweight of both earrings combined is 3.6dwt (5.5 grams).
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or Etruscan wirework design, except for a few very tiny indents to the oval-shaped link on one earring. However, due to the size of the indents and the reflective nature of the link, they are not noticeable when worn. The earring wires are secure and in good working condition.
