Victorian 14kt Yellow Gold Square Etched Locket Pendant
A wonderful etched locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, this unique piece has a square-shaped design which hangs on the diagonal from a corner. The front of the locket is decorated with a fabulous etched design that surrounds a relatively large "R" initial written in a beautiful script. A lovely etched border surrounds the letter, and the surrounding design forms a wonderful starburst like appeal. The back of the locket has a smoothly polished finish and the piece is hinged and opens from the side, revealing two spaces to add special photographs, if desired. At current time, there are two pictures inside, however, they could easily be replaced or removed. Delicate wirework bars rest atop two sides of the locket, coming together at the corner at a lovely looped design that is attached to a simple round bail stamped with a "14K" gold purity mark. A lovely keepsake piece, it would look beautiful hanging from a favorite chain, and would make a fabulous addition to any collection.
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 1 7/8" long (including the bail at the top), and measures about 1 3/8" wide, and is slightly less than 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The locket mechanism and bail are intact and in good working condition. There are a few very minor indents to the back of the locket, however they are not noticeable when worn due to the location.
