Victorian 18kt/14kt Carved Natural Coral Clasped Hand Layered Necklace
A stunning coral necklace from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! This unique piece is comprised of an ensemble of coral beads that hang from a 14kt gold chain in a festoon-like fashion. Four faceted coral beads flanked with 18kt yellow gold ball and floral endcaps, are set along the necklace, each separated by sections of gold chain. At the center of the piece is a fifth complementary coral bead, which dangles a decorative gold vessel from fine chain that attaches at either side, allowing it to move freely. A third layer of chain hangs from the outer two central coral beads, accented by fine coral links and a hand carved hand which dangles below in a dramatic fashion. The 3-dimensional hand is grasping a gold bar that has two final coral beads dangling from chain on either side. The expert level of craftsmanship is highlighted with each beautifully carved piece of coral, and the fabulous design hangs with lovely movement. A discrete push clasp fastens the necklace at the back, secured by an additional safety latch. Perfect for the coral lover, this wonderful piece would make a special addition to any antique collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 14" in total length. The figa drop centerpiece hangs approximately 3" from the chain.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the coral beads, links, or figa which are free of chips or scratches. The push clasp and latch are secure and in good working condition.
