A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket.
A stunning and collectable fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful piece is made of 9k rosy yellow gold and features a fantastic 3-dimensional Freemasonry design. Each side of the figural fob is decorated with various objects reflective of the masonic organization, including a gavel as well as the square and compass. The 3-dimensional design rests atop a rounded agate seal which is carved with the letters "KSHTWSST", which indicates that the person had completed the cryptic degrees of the York Rite and was a "Royal Arch Mason" in the York Rite Degrees of Freemasonry.
The fob hangs from a gold ring which is perfect for hanging from your favorite chain. The fob has several English hallmarks including a worn maker's mark, a shield with three objects in it, the number 9 and number 375 for 9k gold, and finally a date mark showing the letter "P". A beautiful and collectable piece, it would make a wonderful addition to any Freemasonry collection!
Measurement: The fob hangs approximately 1 1/4" long and the agate has a diameter of 5/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or quartz fob.
