Victorian 9kt Bloodstone Fox Intaglio Ring
The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce and image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax, often used in signet rings.
An absolutely fantastic intaglio signet ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely piece is made of 9kt rosy yellow gold and an attractive oval shaped bloodstone intaglio is held within the center. The hand carved image is of a fox with a riding crop in the background. Surrounding the blood stone is a gold beveled frame and the shoulders of the band are formed by 2 graduating gold strands. The inside of the band has several English hallmarks including "375", "9", an anchor and the letter "a". It's a very handsome piece that would make a fabulous addition to any collection.
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 8.5, but could be easily resized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or to the bloodstone intaglio which is intact.
