Victorian Bohemian Garnet Necklace with Star Motif

SKU: 5958

Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver or brass; this method is sometimes referred to as ‘garnet gold’.

An exquisite example of bohemian garnet jewelry from the Victorian era (ca1880)! This wonderful necklace has a stunning star design which is represented by faceted garnet stones. At the center of the necklace, is a large garnet encrusted star that is slightly puffed out. Star cluster links, which graduate slightly in size, alternate with silver chain and make up the rest of the necklace. Dangling from the star center is an encrusted spear shape. The two cluster links that rest on each side of the center star also have dangling shapes hanging from them. The clasp is hidden beneath a garnet encrusted rectangle that rests in the back of the necklace. All of the garnets are set in a closed back rose gold gilt over silver setting. This bohemian garnet necklace is simply exceptional and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 16 1/2” long. The garnet cluster links range slightly in size however, on an average, they measure a little more than 1/4" by 1/4". The large star center measures 1" by 1".

Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the metal and all of the garnet stones are intact. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
