Victorian Coral Hand Carved Dionysus Earrings
An absolutely incredible pair of carved coral earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of solid coral, each earring appears to represent Dionysus, the Greek God of wine. The earrings are intricately hand carved with stunning detail and set in yellow gold. Each has the cameo face of Dionysus, framed by delicately carved ringlets and tiny bunches of grapes. Dangling at either side of the face are luscious grapes, while a third and larger coral link hangs directly below, depicting grapes that emerge from below a large leaf. The coral has rich, luscious color and looks fantastic paired with the vibrant yellow gold setting. Each earring hangs from a simple yellow gold earring wire, which is affixed to a coral cabochon topper. These marvelous and unusual earrings have wonderful movement and look lovely when worn. They would make an exceptional addition to any collection!
Measurements: The earrings hang approximately 2" long, measure 3/4" at their widest point and are 1/4" at their thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved coral or gold setting. The earring wires are secure and in good condition.
