Victorian French 900 Silver Book Chain Necklace 23"
A fabulous silver watch chain from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful piece is French in origin and is crafted in 900 silver. The chain is comprised of rectangular double bar links that alternate with flat silver rings in between. Each bar link is richly detailed with a textured surface, fine twisted rope accents, and engraved detail. A strand of chain that hangs in from the a lorgnette-style, with a watch clasp at the base to hang a complimentary locket or pendant. The chain fastens with a screw clasp in the back, though the length allows it to be simply slipped on and off overhead if desired. A versatile everyday chain, it merges effortlessly into modern fashion and would look perfect paired with a favorite piece hanging from the center!
Measurements: The entire length of the chain measures 23" long. Each long open bar link measures 1 1/2” long, 3/8" wide, and 1/8" thick. Each flat connecting ring has a 3/8" outer diameter.
Condition: The overall condition of the chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling links or toggle bar. The watch swivel clasps and spring ring clasp fasten securely and are in good working order. There is a natural patina on the surface of the silver that gives it an antiqued appearance, which is normal for a Victorian era piece and adds depth to the design.
