Victorian Gilded Silver Natural Coral Filigree Festoon Necklace 17.5"
An incredible coral filigree necklace from the late Victorian (ca1890) era! This artistic piece is crafted in .800 silver and features an elaborate centerpiece that hangs from a simple chain. The filigree design is incredibly ornate, complete with swirled wirework, shapely cutouts, and delicate beadwork. Nine natural coral cabochons are interspersed throughout, each resting in a bezel setting and surrounded by a twisted rope border. Four of the coral links dangle from strands at the base, creating a lovely festoon style that adds wonderful movement to the design. The rich orange hues of the coral pair perfectly against the rosy gilded setting and finishing the look is fine milgraining that details the filigree wirework throughout. The design hangs from a simple chain that fastens in the back with a spring ring clasp stamped with an "800" silver purity mark beside a "NES" maker's mark. This gorgeous necklace looks fabulous worn day or night and would make a unique addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 17.5" long. The coral centerpiece measures about 2 1/4" long, 2 7/8" wide, and is 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or filigree design. All of the coral cabochons are intact and securely set. The spring ring clasp is secure and in good working condition. There is a natural darkened patina along the surface, which is normal given the age and adds beauty and depth to the design.
