A fabulous coin holder pendant necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This unusual piece is crafted in gunmetal and comprised of a 3-dimensional spherical coin holder that hangs from a long chain. The gunmetal displays a wonderful dark matte finish and the hinged ball pendant opens on the side, revealing an expandable coin slot inside. The pendant hangs from a simple round bail at the top, attached to a watch swivel clasp. A small, delicate plaque hangs from the chain clasp, stamped "REAL GUNMETAL" beside a "P&B" maker's mark, which is also stamped on the inside of the coin holder. The relatively long gunmetal chain features sections of interlocking round links that alternate with lovely infinity-shaped wirework links. With no need for a clasp, the generous length allows it to easily slipped on and off overhead, and can be worn long or doubled up for a stylish layered look. Additionally, the watch swivel clasp allows you to attach a different complimentary locket or pendant, if desired. A unique and versatile piece, it makes a fabulous statement when worn and would make a beautiful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain measures approximately 52.75" long. The coin holder locket and watch swivel clasp hangs about 2 1/4" long, and measures about 1 1/8" in diameter. The interior coin slot holder measures about 7/8" in diameter.
Condition: The overall condition of the coin holder and chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gunmetal setting. The coin holder opens easily and stays securely closed and the interior coin compartment is in good working condition.
