Victorian Holbeinesque 18kt Garnet + Champlevé Enamel Pendant
An elaborate pendant from the Victorian Holbeinesque (ca1880s) era! Crafted in 18kt yellow gold, this pendant displays fantastic Champlevé enameling in vibrant red, blue, and green hues atop an ornate frame. A large round garnet cabochon rests within the central bezel, exhibiting a rich purple color. An accent dangles below; a pear-shaped garnet cabochon adorned by matching enameling. The backside of the pendant has a crystal locket framing a curl of hair. The round bail has matching enamel and is ready to attach to a favorite chain. This pendant is a wonderful example of Holbeinesque art!
Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 2 3/8" including the bail. It measures roughly 1 1/8" at its widest point and 1/2" at its deepest point.
Condition: The pendant is in excellent antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The enameling has minor wear on the green curl at its top, but this is not noticeable when worn and does not detract from the beauty of the piece. The garnets are intact and securely set. The bail is secure and in good working condition. The locket window is free of chips and scratches.
