A stunning and unique French pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in vibrant 18kt yellow gold, this beautiful piece is particularly large in size, and adorns an incredible ruby at the center of an elaborate design. The raspberry red gemstone rests in raised prongs within a buttercup setting, and is surrounded by a rich, black enameled border featuring delicate gold accents. Surrounding the central design is an additional border of natural pearls, exhibiting a luscious creamy white color and wonderful surface luster. A wide, gold border encircles the pearls, and is decorated with two 3-dimentional enameled accents on either side, and an additional one at the top, closely resembling a fleur-de-lis motif. Each accent is embellished with fine, black enamel work, that wonderfully contrasts against the smoothly polished yellow gold. Dangling beautifully at the base is a matching fleur-de-lis style link that hangs 5 teardrop shaped links in a lovely graduated formation. Finishing the design is fine milgrain work throughout the piece, and resting at the back is the original pin bar and C-clasp, both stamped with a French hallmark of an eagle head, beside a maker's mark. This lovely and unique pin looks fabulous on and would make a one-of-a-kind addition to any collection!
Measurement: The pin measures approximately 2 3/4" long, about 1 3/8" wide, and is 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The ruby and pearls are intact and securely set. The bar pin and c-clasp are secure and in good working condition.
