Victorian Large Sterling Gilt Horseshoe Bracelet
This fabulous horseshoe bracelet is from the Victorian era (ca1880) and has a bold, fabulous look! This bangle-style piece is made of sterling silver and forms the shape of a large horseshoe. The front surface of the bracelet is detailed with 7 raised squares representing nails (always 7 for good luck!). Each raised nail rests atop a carved groove, and the surface has a vibrant gold appearance due to an applied high gilt finish. The U-shaped bracelet curves comfortably around your wrist and is hinged at the bottom to easily slide on and off the wrist. There is a gold safety chain connecting the two ends for added security. This bracelet is a very fashionable, classic piece that could be worn alone or stacked with other bracelets. It merges effortlessly into modern day fashion and would be a perfect piece for the equestrian enthusiast!
Measurements: The opening (where a wrist would rest) measures approximately 2 1/4" wide and 1 3/4" tall when closed. When opened, the bracelet expands to 2" tall to accommodate a larger wrist when worn. The surface of the bangle measures slightly more than 1/4" at the widest and thickest points.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is good. The bracelet opens easily and stays securely closed, and the hinge and safety chain are both in good condition. There is some normal surface wear, including a few minor dings and some areas where the gilt finish extends beyond the raised nail design, suggesting it may have been entirely gilded at one point. Neither of these detract from the beauty of the piece when worn.
