A fabulous sterling locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous oval shaped sterling locket is detailed with silver rivets and milgrain all across the front of the locket as well as the oversized bail. The bail is perfect for hanging from a heavy Victorian chain. The rivet design allows for the silver to naturally develop a patina in the negative space between each stud, giving the locket wonderful depth. The back of the locket has a simple smooth surface and could be engraved if desired. The inside of the locket features two empty compartments, ready for a photograph or memento. This locket is particularly large in size and a beautiful example of Victorian artistry. It would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 1/2" long, 1 1/2" wide and 1/2" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no serious damage to the silver. There is some normal surface wear and some dings to the silver on the back of the locket which is not unusual for a Victorian piece. The locket closes easily and securely.
