Victorian Petite Austrian 18kt Closed-Backed Rose Cut Diamond Earrings
A lovely pair of petite diamond earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 18kt rose gold, these Austrian-made earrings each adorn a sparkling old Rose Cut diamond hanging from a simple wire. Each stone is closed backed and rests in a double "buttercup" style prong setting, creating a lovely and feminine design. The earrings dangle with lovely movement from 14kt gold clasped wires, and the facets catch the light beautifully with every turn. Stamped on the side of the hinges is the word, "PATENT," and stamped along the earring wires is an Austrian hallmark with city letter "A" dating the piece to Vienna between 1872-1921, and a "4" indicating its 18 karat purity. A simple yet stunning design, these Victorian earrings would make a wonderful everyday accessory!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 5/8" long (including the wire at the top), and measures about 3/8" wide and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The diamonds are intact and securely set, and the clasped earring wires are secure and in good working order. There is a rich, natural darkened patina on the surface, which is normal given the age of the earrings, and adds to their beauty and character.
