Victorian Sterling Gilt & Bohemian Garnet Cabochon Link Necklace

SKU: 42774B

Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver or brass; this method is sometimes referred to as ‘garnet gold’.

A beautiful garnet and sterling gilt necklace  from the Victorian era (ca1880)! This wonderful necklace has a simple, yet lovely design which is set in a traditional sterling gilt setting. The necklace is comprised of garnet cabochons in twisted bezel settings linked together with simple gilded rings. At the center of the necklace are three cabochon links that are each flanked by two Bohemian garnets on either side. Dangling from the center link is a heart-shaped garnet cabochon in its own frame. All of the garnets display a deep, fiery red color that is simply magnificent! The piece fastens together in the back with a a simple spring ring. A wonderful everyday piece, it would make a gorgeous addition to any collection!
