Victorian Sterling Micro Mosaic Bracelet w/ Bird Motif
A fantastic and unusual micro mosaic bracelet from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of sterling silver, the bangle style bracelet is comprised of two tubular links, which form the band of the bracelet. At the front is a marvelous micro mosaic design that covers the surface of the three central plaques. Tiny tiles with vivid colors of glass have been precisely cut and carefully hand set into the image, which are so finely crafted that the result resembles a painting! The image depicts a graceful bird, which rests on a bed of black mosaic tiles. Lovely flowers and stems curl around the bird, and Fleur-de-lys accents decorate the corners. Framing the central image are two curved micro mosaic images, each depicting a bouquet of flowers over a turquoise blue background. Completing the design are fine twisted wirework details and ornate hinges at either side of the central image. The bracelet has a secure pin clasp at the back that is incorporated into the design. It's unusual to encounter an antique micro mosaic bracelet of this type, and this one is particularly lovely! It would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The interior diameter of the bracelet measures approximately 2 3/8" wide and 2" tall. The tubular band of the bracelet is approximately 3/8" wide and a little less than 1/4" thick. The group of 3 micro mosaics measure 2 1/4" wide, a little less than 1" tall and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting. The clasp and hinges are secure and in good working condition. The mosaic pictures are in excellent condition. One of the flower bouquets has a minor chip in it which is not uncommon, nor is it noticeable when worn. Other than this small amount of damage, there doesn't appear to be any other damage to the other mosaic pictures.
