Victorian Sterling Silver Hand Carved Tortoise Shell Urn Earrings
A fabulous pair of carved tortoise shell earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Now a banned material, antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectible. These striking earrings are made of rich, dark tortoise shell which has been hand-carved into the shape of large urns, with softly curved handles at either side. Each earring dangles below a round tortoise shell bead topper which attaches to sterling silver earring wires. The tortoise shell displays an exceptionally deep colored, rich brown hue with hints of burnt orange that can bee seen when caught in the light. Very lightweight and comfortable to wear, these fantastic earrings dangle with lovely movement and frame the face beautifully. Whether worn day or night, these Victorian earrings would make a brilliant addition to any collection!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 2 1/4" long, measures 1/2" wide, and are 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling sliver wire or carved tortoise shell. The earring wires are intact and in good working condition.
