Art Nouveau 14kt Gold + Turquoise Expandable Glasses Lorgnette
An absolutely fabulous lorgnette from the Art Nouveau (ca1900s) era! Crafted in solid 14kt yellow gold, this incredible piece is comprised of a pair of folding glasses held within a breathtaking textured lorgnette encasement. The lorgnette is wonderfully detailed in soft swirls and scrolls which have a 3-dimensional, raised appearance. The flowing design is the same on each side with the front adorning a gorgeous bezel set turquoise stone surrounded by a delicate, beaded gold border. The eye glasses fold in half and are hidden within the gold encasement, opening easily with a simple push of a button located on the side of the handle. At the end of the gold handle is a bail, allowing the lorgnette to be attached to a favorite chain for style and security. This special piece from the Art Nouveau period would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: When closed, the gold case measures 4.5" long and approximately 1 1/8" at the widest point. When opened, the space between the lenses measures 1" wide and 1" inch tall and the length of the eye glasses from end to end is 4". The lorgnette has an overall weight of 34.8 grams.
Condition: The overall condition of the lorgnette is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold encasement or to the eye glasses. The eye glasses fold and move easily and stay securely place in the gold cover. The spring button mechanism is in excellent working condition.
