Vintage 14kt Moveable Horse Racing "They're Off" Charm
A wonderful Vintage horse racing charm from the 1960s era! This fun equestrian piece is crafted in 14kt yellow gold, and depicts a 3-dimensional miniature racing horse and jockey in the race "starting gate" with moveable parts. The hinged gate rests at the front of a realistic looking etched "wooden" slated fence enclosure, which holds the horse and jockey inside. The jockey and horse are wonderfully detailed, with the horse's front legs raised and appearing ready to run, and the back legs are attached to a lever that pivots outwards. Once the front gate is pulled open, the lever can be pulled and pushed thanks to an open cutout at the base of the charm, allowing the horse to move back and forth, as if running out of the gate. The piece is detailed with charming equestrian themed words, including "THEY'RE OFF" on the front gate, "WIN PLACE SHOW" on the back, and "TRACK" on the inside of the gate, behind the horse. A simple round bail rests on the end of the lever, allowing the piece to hang from a favorite chain or charm bracelet. A fun novelty piece, it is sure to delight any horse racing lover, and it would be right at home in any Vintage charm collection!
Measurements: The charm hangs approximately 1" long (including the bail at the top), and is 3/8" wide and thick. The overall pennyweight of the piece is 2.8dwt (4.4 grams).
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the moveable parts of the design. The bail is secure and in good working order.
