Vintage Large 18kt Ivory, Wood + Onyx Apple Pendant Necklace 30"
A unique and whimsical Vintage ivory and wood apple pendant necklace from the 1960s era! Carved from rich brown wood with 18kt yellow gold and ivory accents, this relatively large pendant forms the shape of a halved apple hanging at the center of a long cord. A long, smoothly polished gold "stem" trails into the middle of the apple core, widening at the center and branching out to form the calyx at the base. A fabulous textured finish embellishes the center where two polished onyx "seeds" rest, adding an incredible realistic detail to the piece. Beautiful inlaid ivory plaques represent the white "flesh" of the apple, each one outlined in gold and exhibiting a subtle natural crisscross pattern under the surface. A rich brown wood border encases the ivory, and forms the back of the apple, adding a dramatic contrasting color to the vibrant yellow and soft ivory accents. Finishing the design is a brushed finish that decorates the top of the curved stem, and resting at the back is a large hidden bail stamped with a "750" gold purity mark. A long black rubber cord is threaded through the bail, and fastens in the back with a gold-filled lobster clasp. This magnificent piece makes a bold and impressive statement when worn, and would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The rubber cord measures approximately 30" long and is 1/8" thick. The pendant measures approximately 2 3/4" long, 1 5/8" wide, and is about 3/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the wood and yellow gold setting. The ivory plaques and onyx stones are intact and securely set and free of any chips or scratches. The bail and clasp is secure and in good working condition.
