A beautiful banded agate locket/pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14kt gold, the oval-shaped piece frames a banded agate stone at the center, which is deep brown with a creamy stripe of white. Surrounding the stone is a decorative border complete with applied Etruscan wirework details. A lovely 5-point star is inlaid into the center of the stone, and lined with six delicate rose cut diamonds. The piece hangs from a complimentary fluted bail at the top, and would look fantastic paired with a favorite gold chain. An open window on the back allows a special photograph or small pressed flower to be stored behind a removable frame. A strong Victorian piece, this gorgeous locket/pendant would make a special addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The piece hangs 1 5/8" long, including the bail at the top. The oval pendant measures 1 1/4" tall, 1 1/8" wide, and 5/8" thick. The removable frame on the back measures 7/8" tall and 5/8" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or Etruscan wirework details. The banded agate stone and rose cut diamonds are intact and securely set. The bail at the top is securely attached. The removable frame on the back remains intact, and can be easily removed. The clear cover is not original to the piece, and has been recently added to make it possible to store a photograph or object inside the open space again. There is an untouched natural patina on the surface of the gold setting, which is normal for antique jewelry and adds to its unique beauty and appearance.
