Victorian 18k Bloodstone and Agate Spinner Fob with Watch Key Pendant

A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more sides, which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which side is displayed prominently!

A lovely gold spinner fob from the Victorian (1876) era! Crafted in vibrant 18k yellow gold, the double-sided design holds two oval stones, an agate and a bloodstone, on each side, which are richly colored and flat, allowing them to be carved into intaglio seals. Both stones are bezel set within the gold base, which spins easily when turned and snaps into place, making the fob reversible. Affixed to one side of the spinner is a watch key, which would be used to wind a pocket watch. A ridged jump ring rests at the top of the handle, perfect for hanging from a favorite chain. The side of the fob has several English hallmarks, including an anchor, a crown, the letter "b", and a "M.W" maker's mark, meaning it was created in 1876 in Birmingham, UK. A simple yet beautiful piece, this wonderful fob would make a lovely addition to any collection!

Measurements: The entire fob hangs just under 1 3/4" long when the watch key is extended, approximately 1 3/8" long collapsed, and is 7/8" wide and just under 3/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or spinner, which moves freely and easily. Both stones are intact and secure in their setting, and free of any noticeable chips or scratches. The English hallmarks on the side of the bezel are now somewhat faded due to normal wear, but are still visible. The ring for hanging is secure and intact. There is a patina on the surface of the gold, which is normal for a Victorian era piece.
