An unusual and exquisite pair of earrings from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in blooming 18kt yellow gold, these superb earrings begin with a simple earring wire above a round topper. The surmount is slightly convex and ornately adorned with delicate Etruscan wirework, and encircled by a twisted rope border. A teardrop-shaped link dangles from the center and a larger, complementary gold disc attached by two decorative arms hangs below. Resting in the center of the larger circular link is a whimsical fly, hand carved from horn. The insect has a detailed face and wings and rests atop the disc on six gold legs which peek from beneath its body. A simple earring wire tops the pair, the earrings dangle with lovely movement. These earrings are perfect for any Victorian jewelry aficionado!
Measurements: The earrings hang approximately 2 1/16" long including the earring wire. They measure approximately 3/4" at their widest point.
Condition: The earrings are in overall excellent condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The flies are free of chips and scratches and are securely attached. The earring wires are secure and in good working condition.
