fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have originally been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A wonderful antique fob from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this petite fob has a highly-intricate design. The body of the fob features a foliage-motif cutout design. The fob also features thin swirling-motifs, which ties the leaves together, and gives the piece a dainty look. The top of the piece features a complimentary bail, which resembles a blooming flower. A simple ring is strung through the top of the piece, and would allow the fob/pendant to easily attach to a sterling chain or bracelet. The base of the fob features a bezel-set carnelian fob, which features unique carvings. The carnelian depicts 2 birds resting atop a patch of grass. A floral-wreath lingers in the air above the birds, and the words "VIVONS UNIS" are present as well. "Vivons Unis" translates from French to "live together", and it's possible the piece could have been created to celebrate a marriage. A romantic piece, this fob would make an excellent addition to any antique jewelry collection!

Measurements: The fob/pendant hangs approximately 1 1/4" long (including the complimentary bail). The base of the piece has a width of 7/8" and a height of 5/8".

Condition: The overall condition of the fob/pendant is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting, and the complimentary bail is secure and in working order. The carnelian stone is intact and securely set.
