Victorian Tortoise Shell Long Beaded Necklace

SKU: 33558

Now a banned material, Antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectable. This gorgeous tortoise shell necklace from the Victorian era (ca1880) is particularly beautiful! The necklace is fairly long and is comprised of a variety of tortoise shell beads that vary in shape and size. The pieces are formed by pieces of tortoise shell that have been precisely cut and assembled together to represent three dimensional geometric shapes, including cubes, circles, long ovals, teardrops, rectangles, and diamonds. Each large, geometric link alternates with smaller tortoise shell beads, creating an attractive pattern that runs the entire length of the necklace. The beads are hand strung on brown cord to form a long necklace that can be slipped on and off easily over the wearer's head. The tortoise shell displays a rich, deep brown color and has wonderful hues of light caramels and ambers that can be seen throughout the links. The necklace has a bold, chunky look that is still wonderfully lightweight. It's beautiful, fashionable piece that would make a fabulous addition to any jewelry collection!

Measurements: The necklace measures 36" long. The largest links measure approximately 1 3/4" to 2" long and are approximately 5/8" wide and 1/4" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there are no apparent chips in the tortoise shell beads, all of which are intact and the necklace is securely strung.
