Victorian 14kt Natural Coral Carved Cameo Necklace
An absolutely incredible carved necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This exceptional piece features three cameo links that dangle from a fine 14kt gold chain. The cameos are intricately hand-carved from natural coral, displaying a wonderful salmon color with subtle shades of white. Each cameo face comes to live with incredible 3-dimensional detail, including sculpted facial features, blooming flowers across the forehead, and swirled flourishes throughout. A gold framework can be found on the back of each link, where the coral is securely riveted in place. The cameos hang from drop extensions in a festoon fashion, draping beautifully at the neckline when worn. The chain fastens in the back with a simple spring ring clasp, completing the artistic design. A marvelous example of antique coral jewelry, this wonderful necklace is perfect for the collector!
Measurements: The necklace measures 18" long. The center coral link hangs 1 1/4" long at the center, and the remaining two links hang 7/8" long at either side. The larger center cameo measures 7/8" tall, 5/8" wide, and 1/4" thick. Each of the side cameos measures approximately 1/2" tall, 3/8" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting, or to the carved coral cameos, which are securely set and free of surface chips or scratches. The spring ring clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition.
