Guilloché, in English usually Guilloche, is an engraving technique in in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloche surface was then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design would show through the colorful enamel.

A spectacular French enamel watch pin from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! This unusual piece is made of sterling silver and has a very decorative design complete with beautiful enamel work and hand-set marcasite stones. At the top of the piece is a silver bar pin that attaches to three "A" shaped links which are hinged together for flexible movement. All of the links have a textured surface and are decorated with marcasites and black enamel accents. Dangling at the bottom of the piece is a 6-sided pendant with a round watch face in the center. The front and back of the pendant display an exquisite Guilloché enameled surface in a vivid bright green color and a black enameled border and delicate wheat engraving on the side completes the Deco look. The watch winds from the bottom, though it no longer appears to keep time. This remarkable piece is an excellent example of Guilloché craftsmanship and looks very distinguished when worn. A beautiful piece, it would be perfect for any collector!

Measurements: The entire piece hangs approximately 3" long. The bar pin measures 1 1/4" wide at the top. The watch pendant measures 7/8" at the widest point and is 1/4" thick. The watch face has a diameter of slightly more than 1/2".

Condition: The overall condition of the watch pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or enamel work, and all of the marcasite stones are intact. The glass covering the watch face is intact, though the watch no longer appears to be functional. The pin clasp is secure and in good working condition.
