H. BUSSMER Vintage 18kt Reverse Carved Rock Crystal Shih Tzu Dog Pendant
Reverse carved crystal was a technique created by cutting pieces of rock quartz crystal into a convex form and then polishing it into a cabochon shape. An image is carved into the flat side of the crystal and then hand painted. From the front, the image appears to be almost three dimensional. Many different images were used in reverse carved crystal jewelry and artwork, but animals were some of the most common motifs.
This Vintage reverse carved crystal pendant was created by H. Bussmer and is a wonderful example of the timeless craft! From the 1990s era, the carved rock quartz crystal cabochon, which is particularly large in size, rests within a smooth 18kt gold closed-back bezel setting. The carefully hand-painted image is very detailed, portraying a sweet Shih Tzu dog with multi-colored black, grey, reddish brown and white hair, pursed black lips, and dark brown eyes. The charming dog has two small braids in its long flowing hair and a nose that has the appearance that it is wet. The image is so fine and detailed, that it almost looks like you could run your hands over the textured fur. The pendant hangs from a fluted gold bail which adorns three sparkling diamonds, completing the stunning design perfectly. The back of the bail is stamped "750." A very unique and artistic piece, it is perfect for any Shih Tzu dog lover or Essex crystal collector!
Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 1 1/2" long (including the bail), has a 1 1/8" diameter, and measures 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the charm is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the reverse carved rock crystal and painted image. The bail and diamonds are intact and secure.
